Job Summary:
The Assistant Dean, appointed by and responsible to the Dean of the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing, provides strategic and operational leadership for their respective division. This role ensures alignment with the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the College of Nursing and UNMC, fostering a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
Primary Responsibilities
The Assistant Dean provides administrative leadership (0.50 FTE) with negotiated allocations for teaching, research/scholarship, service, and practice, based on the needs of the division.
Administrative Leadership

Cultivate an environment that supports faculty, staff, and students in achieving academic and professional excellence.

Maintain transparent and responsive communication across the Division and College.

Implement and evaluate strategic initiatives consistent with the College’s mission and strategic plan.

Promote innovation in education, research, and clinical practice while ensuring compliance with university, accrediting, and regulatory standards.
Academic Oversight

Oversee course quality, scheduling, and curriculum delivery across programs.

Support faculty development, mentorship, and adherence to workload, promotion, and tenure policies.

Coordinate recruitment, retention, and evaluation of faculty and staff.
Student and Community Engagement

Ensure student success, belonging, and policy adherence through proactive collaboration with academic and student services.

Represent the College in community partnerships, alumni engagement, and clinical affiliations, ensuring alignment with academic and professional standards.
Fiscal and Operational Management

Collaborate with administrative leadership to manage division budgets, space, and resources effectively.

Uphold principles of fiscal responsibility, stewardship, and strategic resource utilization.

Required Qualifications:
- Holds a doctoral degree in nursing or a related field and a graduate degree with a major in nursing.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in academic leadership role.
- Possess experience and demonstrate skills in administration, interpersonal relations, teaching, and curriculum development, as well as demonstrated scholarly activity.
- Proven leadership experience in program, faculty, and staff development.
- Able to motivate and build consensus among faculty and staff.
- Effective communicator.
- Creative problem solver.
- Ability to manage conflict resolution.
- Must be registered to practice nursing in Nebraska and demonstrate professional leadership activity in professional organizations.
- Terms of employment are in keeping with current University of Nebraska policy.
- Eligible for UNMC graduate faculty status.
