Job Description

Nature of Work

Responsible for providing leadership and supervision of a comprehensive student activities program and student center operation serving the educational, social, cultural, and recreational interest of the college and providing involvement opportunities for students to learn, develop, and grow. Primary responsibilities: 1) oversee student programming, 2) provide student leadership development, 3) coordinate new student orientation programs (WOW - Week of Welcome), and 4) manage student center facilities and activities. This position requires night and weekend hours.

Examples of Work Performed

  1. Develop, implement, and assess a department strategic plan to support the institution's mission, goals, and strategic plan.
  2. Supervise professional staff, support staff, and student/part time employees.
  3. Oversee the processing of Student Activity Trust Fund expenditures and student organization risk management practices.
  4. Organize and provide overall direction to new student orientation programs.
  5. Collaborate with campus partners to provide major campus programs such as but not limited to Homecoming, Family Weekend, Healthy Relationships Week, as well as create and implement campus student leadership curriculum.
  6. Co-advise Student Senate and oversee student organization recognition process.
  7. Oversee artist contracts for major student programming events.
  8. Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to develop and support student retention initiatives.
  9. Provide strategic long-term planning for the Student Center including facility enhancement, maintaining superior customer service, optimizing space utilization, and marketing services to external conferences and special events.
  10. Direct and provide overall leadership to student center operations and personnel including but not limited to building operations (including student mailroom operations), coordination of event logistics, building policy oversight, and supervision of employees.
  11. Oversee and manage student activities, student center operations, & new student orientation budgets.
  12. Serves as a Title IX Designee
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

A master's degree in student development, higher education administration, or related field and experience in student affairs.

Preferred Qualifications

Five or more years of related experience in student affairs with a minimum of three years of progressive leadership experience; demonstrated knowledge and implementation of best practices in student activities, orientation or student leadership; a genuine interest and enthusiasm for working directly with students; excellent managerial, supervisory, team-building, and communication skills; ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently; and desire to work in a high-traffic, fast-paced environment.
