Job Summary:
Nature of Work:
Assist with the administration of federal and state student aid programs by processing and verifying applications, processing awards, running disbursements, tracking scholarships/waivers. Drafting letters, monitoring academic progress and running reports. Answer questions and provide financial aid information regarding scholarships, grants, work study, and student loans/accounts.
Examples of Work Performed:
- Develop a customer service approach to more effectively promote the “students first” initiative ensuring that all constituents are served in a fast, friendly, efficient, and effective manner.
- Advise students and their families regarding financial aid and business services options. Counsel students and parents on various general aid topics including, but not limited to applying for financial aid, bill payment options, documentation requirements, WSC’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy and appeal process, and Special Circumstance Appeal Request process.
- Develop and maintain a very positive and professional customer service attitude within the office and with all constituencies to include students, faculty, staff, guests, and employees.
- Respond to inquiries by email, in person, and telephone in a timely manner.
- Produce content for the Financial Aid Office’s Social Media pages. Post content regularly with the goal of student and family outreach, education, and support.
- Review paperwork and accurately check in documents in the PeopleSoft system.
- Scan paperwork and prepare electronic files for verification.
- Complete Needs Analysis Forms for external scholarships, BIA, Voc Rehab, etc.
- Process outside scholarships and make necessary adjustments to financial aid packages.
- Process Spouse/Dependent Tuition Waivers and make necessary adjustments to financial aid packages.
- Document retention administration including creating new electronic student files and managing the annual purge process of old student records within federal guidelines.
- Assist in the review of specific verification checklists before packaging each week and update as necessary.
- Submit website updates for the financial aid pages of www.wsc.edu.
- Assist with annual financial aid form updates.
- Participate actively in enrollment management and student retention activities.
- Provide students with consumer information as required by federal regulations.
- Follow written policies and procedures about the College’s financial aid programs.
- Understand and apply Federal and State regulations and Institutional policies to daily operations.
- Maintain records and prepare reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of this classification.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; excellent time management skills; sound analytical and problem-solving skills, customer service oriented; and experience with Microsoft Excel.
