Job Description

Job Summary and Responsibilities:

The National Counterterrorism, Innovation, Technology, and Education Center (NCITE), a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Center of Excellence (COE) at the University of Nebraska Omaha, is seeking a Graphic Design student worker to develop visual content and aid communication and marketing efforts that seek to establish NCITE as the premier provider of U.S. counterterrorism research, technology, and workforce development. This position will support the Center with a majority focus on executing graphic design projects to help translate the research to a wide range of audiences and will also be given the opportunity to brainstorm and contribute to maintaining NCITE’s brand identify. Due to the fast-paced needs of the research center, applicants who can commit 20 hours a week in-person will be prioritized for interviews.

Responsibilities include:

  • Producing final public-ready branded outputs for research and digital media – including research reports, one-page deliverables, event & webinar flyers, infographics, etc.  
  • Updating NCITE-branded templates, including presentation slides and email newsletters
  • Assisting with copy editing and accessibility compliance of deliverables
  • Assisting with photo archiving and digital signage management
  • Assisting with day-of event and visitor logistics management 

This role is a year-round position, for immediate hire, with a starting minimum wage of $17 per hour.

Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be a current undergraduate or graduate student, studying or with a background in a relevant field, including studio art, PR or advertising design, or marketing. Other qualifications include:

  • Must be an enrolled UNO student. 3rd year undergraduate or masters-level training/experience is preferred. 
  • Proficient with the Adobe Creative Suite – particularly Illustrator and InDesign – and Microsoft Office products.
  • A solid understanding of digital marketing and public relation principles.
  • Passionate about current events, including national security and counterterrorism topics, or have a willingness to learn more about them.
  • The ability to communicate design decisions with colleagues and managers.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.

NCITE provides cutting edge research, academic, and workforce development programs for counterterrorism professionals across the Homeland Security Enterprise (HSE).  July 2025 began the 6th year of a 10-year Cooperative Agreement between UNO and DHS Science and Technology, Office of University Programs.
