
Job Summary:
The U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) is a 34,000-acre facility near Clay Center, NE. The work performed at USMARC supports research that is focused on solving high priority problems for the U.S. beef cattle, sheep, and swine industries.
As a Construction Tech I, you will:
- Be responsible for building, grounds and equipment maintenance (including electrical, plumbing, welding) in all swine facilities and on all swine grounds.
- Serve as the lead for repairing and maintaining the Feed Efficiency Computer system monitors to recalibrate them.
- Ensure proper sanitation of swine facilities.
- Provide care to livestock to include feeding, artificial insemination, heat checking, observation and treatment of swine population.
- Prepare and load feeder pigs and market hogs.
- Assist with weighing “off test” animals to gather research data for entry into computer system.
- Supervise work of other staff when performing maintenance duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position requires irregular hours and work in inclement weather and livestock facilities.

Required Qualifications:
- High School education or GED plus one year of combined experience in any of the following construction trades such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing, concrete, or welding; equivalent education/experience considered.
- Knowledge and skills to provide support in one of multiple construction trade areas.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience and/or training in multiple construction trades such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing, concrete, and welding.
- Machinery operations and maintenance skills.
- Experience working with and around livestock preferred.
