Grant Specialist - Lead
Job Description

Job Summary:

As a Grant Specialist – Lead, you will:

  • Serve in a customer-facing, consultative role and be responsible for providing grant support in a timely and accurate manner and in compliance with all applicable institutional, UNL, State, and Federal regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Primarily execute and review routine and complex pre- and post-award grant transactions.
  • Work closely with employees within the departments served, as well as functional office staff, providing a high level of customer service and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Function under limited supervision and expected to utilize sophisticated technology to provide professional services.
  • Supervise Grants employees.
  • Work with direct reports to identify and facilitate ongoing professional development opportunities.

 

This position can be located on either Scott Campus in Omaha, or City Campus in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of related finance or grant management work experience.
  • Additional years of relevant experience or completed relevant education may substitute for required education/experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience with SAP or large integrated finance system.
  • A willingness and demonstrated ability to learn new hardware and software systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in compliance with rules and regulations, including HIPAA and FERPA guidelines on the disclosure of information.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships within and outside of reporting lines.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.

 

Preferred Qualifications (but not required):

  • Experience performing project or cost accounting.
  • Experience completing finance or grant tasks in a business setting.
  • Experience conducting training.
  • Experience serving multiple units as part of a service team. Experience performing grant-related tasks at a University of Nebraska institution.
  • Experience with UNL grants management system or similar grants management system.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and guidelines related to business practices.
  • Knowledge of grant terminology and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor others.
