Job Summary:
The Department of Music at the University of Nebraska at Kearney invites applications for an Assistant Director of Bands/Percussion Instructor to start in the Fall of 2026.
Responsibilities will include:
- Co-directing the Pride of the Plains Marching Band (including drumline)
- Directing the Symphonic Band.
- Teach applied percussion to undergraduate and graduate students.
- Teach Percussion Techniques to undergraduate Music Education students.
- Teach Percussion Pedagogy to Graduate Music Education students.
- Teach other courses appropriate to the candidate's interests and experience and to the departmental needs. This may include instrumental conducting, marching band and jazz techniques, introduction to music education, music appreciation, and graduate online courses.
- Active recruitment and retention, scholarship/creative activity, and university service are expected
Required Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in music or music education or ABD with degree completion by the time of appointment.
- At least one degree in music education.
- Evidence of successful teaching/band direction at the college level.
- Evidence of a high level of performing abilities in percussion
- Ability to develop and deliver online courses.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of successful collegiate teaching beyond completion of doctorate.
- 3-5 years of successful high school or collegiate drumline teaching experience.
- Experience in teaching an undergraduate introduction to music education course.
