Job Summary:
Full-time TRIO-SSS Advisor of TRIO Student Support Services grant position that is federally funded through August 31, 2030. The TRIO-Student Support Services program serves students who meet one or more of the following eligibility requirements: are first-generation, meet Federal income requirements, or have a documented disability. The TRIO-SSS Advisor assists with coordinating direct and indirect support services to ensure the academic success, retention, and graduation of TRIO-SSS students as stipulated in the UNK US Department of Education TRIO/Student Support Services (SSS) grant. This position will teach a Loper 101 course for TRIO-SSS first year participants. That course assists students with the transition from high school to college. The advisor also manages the TRIO-SSS Peer Mentor program.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in education, family science, psychology, social work, counseling, or other appropriate area
- Excellent interpersonal skills required to work effectively with students.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills needed to work with faculty and other campus entities
- Ability to relate to college students and sincere interest in helping students from underrepresented backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively initiate, coordinate, implement, and assess programs and activities
- Ability to read, analyze, and apply information from guiding documents, such as the TRIO grant, and federal funding laws
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree
- Previous experience providing academic advising, career planning, and other services to students of diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities
- Previous experience teaching, particularly related to academic success strategies and financial literacy
- Prior experience working with a TRIO or similar program targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and/or individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline
