Job Description

Job Summary:

As Director, Emerging Technologies in NU ITS, this role leads the strategic exploration, evaluation, and implementation of new and transformative technologies within an academic context – focusing on use across teaching, learning, research, and operations. This role will collaborate broadly with all divisions of NU ITS, faculty, students, instructional designers, faculty development offices, and administration to foster innovation, enhance learning, realize scale, and advance institutional goals. Key responsibilities include staying current with trends and rapidly advancing technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ensuring the institution is prioritizing not only innovation, but also ethical and effective adoption.

This position will uphold the ITS core principles of outstanding collaboration and communication, a drive to succeed, a passion for higher learning, and acting with integrity.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree

5 years of progressively responsible experience leading or working closely with learning technologies and demonstrated experience evaluating and implementing new technology

Demonstrated collaboration skills working within and across stakeholder groups

Demonstrated strong knowledge of current and emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence.

Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.

 

Equivalent combination of education and experience, that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree

Knowledge of compliance and ethical frameworks surrounding the use of AI and emerging technologies in higher education.

Experience with grant writing, proposal development, or external funding related to innovation initiatives

Demonstrated ability to pilot and scale technology solutions, particularly those that support teaching,learning, or research.

Strategic planning experience, including roadmap development for emerging technology integration

Experience managing vendor relationships, including playing a key role in negotiation of contracts and pricing in a dynamic marketplace.

Involvement in professional communities related to academic technology, innovation, or AI
