Job Summary:
Working under general supervision of a Dispatch Supervisor, incumbent receives incoming emergency and non-emergency calls requesting police, fire, and EMS assistance. Operates telephone, radio and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and dispatches emergency units and/or personnel in response to requests for assistance. Coordinates communications during field activity and relays information to appropriate department, public safety officials or other agencies. Also, maintains records, typing and filing. Ability to work well under pressure, during both routine and intense emergency situations with the ability to remain calm, communicate effectively with callers and emergency responders. High attention to detail, strong customer service skills, and familiarity with campus and city geography is highly desired. Ability to multitask and work with frequent interruptions is paramount.

Required Qualifications:
- High School education or GED.
- Experience with multi-line phone system, customer service, and computers.
- Typing speed of 30 wpm or greater.
- Basic multi-line phone system knowledge, customer service skills, and basic computer and keyboarding skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
- Relevant coursework, or specialized training beyond high school.
- Previous experience working with public safety communications.
- NCIC Certification
- Use of a computer aided dispatch (CAD) and multi-channel public safety radio system.
- Experience in using GIS and the monitoring of security equipment.
- Familiarity with police records and property management.
- Use of NCIC.
