Molecular Biology Research Technician (Temporary)
Job Description

Job Summary:

As a Molecular Biology Research Technician (Temporary), you will:

  • Carry out projects to support the major research objectives by collecting and analyzing data
  • Maintain laboratory records
  • Organize and maintain lab space
  • Maintain laboratory and chemical inventory and coordinate ordering with PI to replenish as needed
  • Perform general lab housekeeping including autoclaving biohazardous waste as needed

 

Within the UNL system, this position is categorized as a Research Technician II.

Temporary employees may be appointed for a period of up to two years. Those appointed for more than six months are eligible for benefits from the beginning of the appointment, provided the position is half-time (.50 FTE) or greater. Those appointed for six months or less are not eligible for benefits. Benefits for eligible temporary employees include the following: vacation and sick leave, and health, dental, vision and life insurance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry or a related field.
  • Experience in molecular biology.
  • Familiarity with using computers to analyze data.
  • Familiarity with reading scientific literature.

Preferred Qualifications:

The following qualifications are preferred, but not required:

  • One year of independent research experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Ability to critically evaluate data and develop independent research ideas.
