APEX Business Development Specialist
Job Description

Job Summary:

APEX Accelerator Business Development Specialist (BDS) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing outreach, marketing, client recruitment, and event activities to support the growth of eligible businesses in government contracting. This role involves developing and delivering educational events and workshops, creating targeted marketing campaigns, recruiting and engaging new clients, and managing the administration of outreach programs and events. The BDS ensures that all activities align with the requirements of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), and other federal, state, and local government contracting opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, management, finance, accounting, marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in business development, marketing, outreach, or program coordination, and creative problem solving skills. Experience creating and managing marketing campaigns across digital, social, and print channels, with measurable results in audience engagement and program participation. Development and delivery of educational workshops and conferences.
  • Valid drivers license.

Will consider an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Government Contracting Expertise – Direct experience assisting businesses with federal, state, or local government procurement processes, particularly in meeting U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) requirements.
  • Business Development & Outreach – Proven success in developing and implementing outreach strategies to engage small and disadvantaged business communities.
  • Client Recruitment & Relationship Management – Demonstrated ability to recruit, onboard, and maintain productive relationships with diverse business clients, including Small Businesses, SDB, WOSB, HUBZone, SDVOSB, and HBCU/MI organizations.
  • Event Planning & Administration – Skilled in coordinating professional workshops, conferences, and training programs from concept to execution, including budgeting, logistics, and post-event analysis.
  • Training & Presentation Skills – Comfort and proficiency in delivering educational sessions, webinars, or public presentations to varied audiences.
  • Data & Reporting – Experience using CRM or client management databases to track outreach efforts, engagement metrics, and program impact.
  • Partnership Development – History of collaborating with economic development agencies, chambers of commerce, and industry groups to achieve shared goals.
