Job Description

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration, this role is responsible for the oversight of day-to-day accounting and business functions of the College's 15 academic programs and four functional offices on multiple campuses, including (but not limited to) accounting, contracts, human resources, compliance, and travel. Collates and analyses data, produces reports that convey financial information in visually appealing and easily understood charts. Works closely with college and program leadership to develop and monitor annual budgets and oversee the budget prep process. Provides training related to university accounting and human resources practices and policies to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations. Supervises 4 – 5 staff members.

Required Qualifications:

  • Required Education in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Management, Finance, Public Health or related field.
  • 3 years progressive management experience to include experience with financial and personnel management.
  • Microsoft Excel,Microsoft Word,Microsoft Outlook.

Will consider additional related post high school education in lieu of required experience.

 

  • Ability to problem solve by critically evaluating alternative courses of action and arriving at solutions that are best for both the unit/ college and UNMC.
  • Working knowledge of related technological resources/ software to include SAP and MS Office suite.
  • Demonstrated style of participatory leadership that fosters a climate of respect and collegiality to include competency regarding: conflict management, supervision, mentoring, and team building.
  • Position requires regular and consistent attendance in the office.
  • Position may require occasional evening and weekend hours, travel within and outside of the state.
  • Proficiency in analytic reasoning to formulate budgets and administrative policies, and processes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of regulatory framework and internal controls and ability to apply them within the business unit/college.
  • Knowledge of when to elevate an issue to a supervisor.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Accounting, MPA, MBA or related.
  • Experience in higher education, non-profit, or government sectors that includes oversight of contracts, compliance, project management, budget, and expense management. Knowledge of sponsored projects accounting.
