Job Summary:

The Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Library at the University of Nebraska at Omaha invites applications for a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty Emerging Technologies and AI Librarian with a negotiable start date during the Spring 2026 semester. We are looking for a curious and thoughtful innovator to lead the development and delivery of research and instruction services focused on artificial intelligence and digital literacy at Criss Library.

 

Emerging Technologies/AI Librarian

  • Guides students and faculty in the ethical and responsible use of AI in research, emphasizing transparency, academic integrity, and responsible use of generative AI tools.  
  • Develops and delivers information literacy instruction and workshops for faculty, staff, and students with an emphasis on AI literacy, ethical AI use, and emerging technologies in information and digital literacy. 
  • As the dedicated faculty librarian for the AI Learning Lab, provides AI Literacy support as well as research assistance and guidance on AI-related topics in research. 
  • Creates and maintains Criss Library’s AI and College of Information Science & Technology research resources, including LibGuides, videos, and tutorials about AI integration in databases and the research process, in order to support effective and ethical use of AI and other emerging technologies in academic research. 
  • Leads and participates in Criss Library outreach activities to promote AI literacy and emerging technology research services. 
  • Develops and applies evaluation criteria for the use of emerging AI research tools in research, focusing on access, accuracy, reliability, data privacy, and academic integrity.  
  • Assesses the impact and effectiveness of Criss Library’s AI-related instruction, resources, and services.

Subject Specialist:   

  • Evaluates and selects appropriate resources (monograph, serial, and electronic resources) for the assigned subject areas in IS&T   
  • Conducts ongoing review and de-selection of materials.   
  • Collaborates with faculty in assigned subject areas to develop and communicate the availability of library resources and services.   
  • Provides general and in-depth research consultations in an appointment-based model for assigned subject areas. 
  • Provides library instruction both online and in person to undergraduate and graduate students. 

Other Job Responsibilities:  

  • Participates in the evaluation and assessment of library programs and services, including compiling and analyzing statistical data.  
  • Maintains current knowledge of advances in artificial intelligence, computing, emerging technologies, and related areas and communicates key trends and recommendations to library staff and campus partners. 
  • Participates in department and library planning.  
  • Develops and documents processes and procedures; periodically reviews and revises processes and procedures as needed.  
  • May have supervisory duties. 
  • Accept and implement other duties as assigned. 

Faculty Responsibilities:  

  • Serves on library and university committees.  
  • Participates in cross-departmental projects within the library. 
  • Participates in professional activities, professional development and scholarly research and publication activities as outlined in the "Guidelines on Appointment, Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure Recommendations for Faculty Members of the University Library".  

Required Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in library or information sciences from an American Library Association-accredited institution.  
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with information literacy or library instruction in an academic or research library.  
  • Demonstrated experience with AI research tools and the ethical, effective integration of AI into the research process. 
  • Strong understanding of emerging technologies, including AI, and their impact on academic libraries and higher education. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information, AI literacy, and digital literacy concepts to faculty, students, and staff. 
  • Experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in a rapidly changing technological environment. 
  • Excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal, communication and written skills.  
  • Demonstrated ability to set and attain goals effectively.

Subject specialist expertise in computing or technology.
