Asst. Director, Sports Programs
Job Description

Job Summary:

This position provides leadership and performs organizational duties to assure the successful operation of a comprehensive collegiate Intramural Sports program, a Sports Club program (8-10 clubs), a small Unified Sports program, and management of Campus Recreation and Wellness (RecWell) Recreation Fields. This Assistant Director is to conduct activity programming; personnel recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluating graduate and undergraduate personnel; risk management training for Sports Program student staff; student development and assessment; budget development and administration; interpretation and application of university policies and procedures; collaboration with colleges and departments throughout Academic Affairs, Student Services, Athletics, and Business and Finance. Participation in and promotion of RecWell and Division of Student Life and Wellbeing programs, activities, and events is also expected.They will also be the liaison to the RecWell Coordinator of Facilities to relay facility related problems and repairs within the associated program area(s), provide leadership for RecWell student staff, and assist in the development of opportunities for student success.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field.
  • Two years full-time, administrative experience in campus or municipality competitive recreation (NOTE: 2 years Graduate Assistantship = 1-year full-time experience.)
  • Demonstrated experience in sports officiating for flag football, basketball, soccer, volleyball and floor hockey.
  • Previous experience training sport officials.
  • Demonstrated experience in formatting leagues and bracketing.
  • Proven ability to serve as an advisor for Sport Clubs officers, coaches or team captains.

Required License/Certification:

  • Adult CPR and First Aid Basics
  • Qualifications are required to upon being hired or shortly thereafter
  • Familiarity with sport liability and risk management.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field.
  • CPR w/AED and First Aid Instructor certified.
  • CDC Heads Up Concussion in Youth Sports Certification.
  • U.S Center for Safesport Certifications (Emotional and Physical Misconduct, Mandatory Reporting: Understanding Your Responsibilities, and Sexual Misconduct Awareness Education).
