Job Description

Job Summary:

 

This position provides outpatient comprehensive medical care to children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and neurotypical individuals at the Munroe-Meyer Institute for Genetics and Rehabilitation. The provider will collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care, deliver evidence-based and personalized medical services, perform physical examinations and developmental assessments, manage pediatric illness, promote wellness and disease prevention, and support families in meeting their children’s health needs.

 

Practice Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, compassionate, and evidence-based care that integrates ethical considerations, cost-effectiveness, and family satisfaction.

  • Assess the health status of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults; obtain comprehensive medical, developmental, and family histories; and develop appropriate care plans.

  • Perform age- and history-appropriate physical examinations.

  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic pediatric conditions, identifying normal versus abnormal growth and development patterns.

  • Order, interpret, and act upon appropriate screening tests, labs, and diagnostic procedures; develop treatment plans based on findings.

  • Provide preventive care, including screenings, immunizations, anticipatory guidance, and education to promote health, prevent illness and injury, and address identified risk factors.

  • Prescribe medications in accordance with state and federal regulations, using evidence-based pharmacotherapeutics. Educate families on intended effects, instructions, side effects, interactions, costs, and alternatives. Monitor therapeutic and adverse effects.

  • Develop holistic, culturally sensitive, family-centered care plans that actively engage children and families in decision-making.

  • Collaborate with internal and external healthcare providers to ensure coordinated, high-quality care, including consultation with pediatric specialists.

  • Take call on weekdays, weekends, and holidays in rotation with other providers.

  • Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation of patient care and ensure accurate billing in accordance with program productivity standards.

  • Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and institutional policies.

  • Participate in continuing education, professional development, and scholarly activities to remain current on medical advancements, treatments, and technologies.

  • Contribute to the academic mission of the medical center through education, research, or other scholarly engagement.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of a Residency in Pediatrics from a ACGME accredited Pediatric Institution.
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics.
  • Eligible for state medical license to practice medicine in the state of Nebraska.
  • Current DEA certificate.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association.

  • Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy and a family-centered approach to care.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience in outpatient pediatric medicine.
  • Experience with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of EPIC electronic health record systems.
