Job Summary:
A UNO/UNMC Department of Public Safety Patrol Sergeant provides leadership consistent with the mission of the University, understanding the uniqueness of public safety and law enforcement in collegiate and hospital environments, and is sensitive to the safety needs of students, faculty, staff and guests. The Patrol Sergeant, reporting to the Captain of Patrol Operations, has direction and supervision of a team of police officers to accomplish daily and long-term law enforcement responsibilities. Sergeants mentor, motivate, and provide guidance to assist in the professional development of police officers and those security officers assigned to their team.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma
- Five (5) years of experience in law enforcement
- Must have current law enforcement certification in good standing. If certification is from outside Nebraska, the incumbent is required to obtain Nebraska law enforcement certification through the reciprocity process within one year. Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
- Must successfully pass physical, psychological and polygraph examinations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous law enforcement supervisory experience. Law enforcement experience in college, university, or hospital environment
- Ability to speak/understand a second language.
