Job Summary:
The University of Nebraska at Kearney Police Department is seeking a highly motivated and professional candidate to serve as Police Officer. The duties of a police officer focus on protecting people and property. Patrol areas assigned. Respond to calls, enforce laws, make arrests, issue citations, and occasionally testify in court cases. Make traffic stops, respond to domestic disturbances, and provide first aid to someone involved in a traffic accident or injured in a domestic dispute until paramedics arrive. Time is divided between patrolling, writing reports, and filling out forms.
Required Qualifications:
- High School education or GED
- Must meet the physical requirements for acceptance and completion of the Nebraska law enforcement training program.
- Must be willing to sign a contract of employment with UNK upon completion of the training academy.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Requires a valid driver's license with a minimum of 6 points, good driving record and no criminal offenses.
- Only individuals who are currently certified law enforcement officers, in accordance with applicable state standards, are authorized to carry firearms on University property. All such authorization must remain in full compliance with University policies and all local, state, and federal laws. Required to demonstrate proficiency in handgun operation through certification per Nebraska State Statute 81-1412; and must be physically able to operate a firearm or other weapons as assigned.
