Public Outreach Associate
Job Description

Job Summary:

The Public Outreach Associate will coordinate and execute communications, marketing, and public relations projects for the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders, as assigned by the Department Chair. The individual in this position will coordinate with the CEHS webmaster to maintain UNL website standards and to keep web content current and relevant; research and write stories about students, faculty, staff, alumni, and activities of the department for publication on website and marketing/communication materials; actively participate in recruitment efforts for students including attending recruitment events such as job fairs and professional organization meetings; and support the development of new programing for the recruitment of research participants. The position will also assist in the development of department initiatives by providing ongoing insights, enhancing operational procedures and recommending new communication mediums.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field plus one (1) year of professional experience in journalism, public relations, marketing or other communications related fields. Additional years of relevant experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Demonstrated ability writing for a variety of communication platforms including publications, websites, social media, and emails.
  • Proficiency in a variety of software tools, including Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and web content management systems.
  • A high proficiency level in technology is necessary.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field.
  • Familiarity with Associated Press writing style.
  • Knowledge of learning management systems and familiarity with UNL brand standards.

 

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, able to consistently meet deadlines, and is skilled in developing professional relationships.
