Job Summary:

The Research Technologist with a high degree of technical skills and experience in laboratory science, tissue culture, and mouse handling will assist with the regular functioning of a research laboratory for Dr. Al-Sadi in the GI division of the UNMC department of Internal Medicine. The technologist will be responsible for the maintenance of mouse colony, participate in planning experimental designs, carrying out the experimental procedures, performing animal experiments using mouse models of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and data analysis, Work under general supervision to: perform in vitro cell culture experiments, including experiments using Caco-2 monolayers; perform analysis of human, animal tissues, and samples from in vitro experiments using routine cellular, molecular biology, and protein chemistry procedures. These routine lab procedures include microscopy, histology, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, ELISA, flow cytometry, Western blot, quantitative PCR, molecular cloning, and siRNA. Also, the technician will be responsible for assisting other individuals in the lab and will perform duties as assigned by the lab. This may include maintaining laboratory inventory and ordering needed supplies, preparing supplies for experiments, record-keeping, and analyzing research data. This position will assist with the proper maintenance of lab safety documents and overall compliance with regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Scientific field.
  • 2 years experience in animal in-vivo experimental procedures, animal handling and mouse colony management, cellular biology, immunology, and/or molecular biology, and scientific writing, including manuscript preparation.
  • Microsoft Excel,Microsoft Word,Microsoft PowerPoint,Microsoft Outlook.

 

  • Proficiency in written and spoken communication in English.
  • Laboratory benchwork experience.
  • Ability to train and work with others.
  • Multitasking (manage multiple priorities simultaneously)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a Scientific field.
  • Experience in animal surgeries, molecular biology, nucleic acid, antibodies, protein and small molecule detection, cell culture techniques, Scientific writing
  • SAP, GraphPad Prism, EndNote

 

  • Able to multitask and independently manage time to maximize productivity
  • Ability to independently follow experimental guidelines and protocols.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of computer use and its applications
  • Ability to identify potential problems in time and to ensure smooth day to day running of the laboratory
  • Ability to work harmoniously with other members of the research group
