Job Summary:
The Research Animal Care Program is seeking to hire an Animal Care Technician/Veterinary Technician at one of two levels: II or III.
The Animal Care Technician/Veterinary Technician provides basic to skilled animal care duties to support research activities in the Animal Care Program (ACP) centrally managed facilities. Responsibilities include general care and husbandry for multiple species of animals, maintenance of equipment, and collection of research data. This position oversees daily health care and performs technical tasks. The job requires ability to work irregular hours, work in inclement conditions and have a suitable driving record to be able to drive university vehicles.
The Animal Care Technician/Veterinary Technician III also provides occasional supervision of 1-6 employees or students and assists with development of planning for the facility.
In the UNL system, this position is categorized as an Animal Care Program Technician II or III.

Required Qualifications:
Level II:
- Associate’s degree in Veterinary technology, animal science or a related field; additional relevant experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Proficiency with computers, including accurate keyboarding and experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet browsers.
Level III:
- Bachelor's degree in Veterinary technology, animal science or a related field plus 1 year animal care or related experience; additional relevant experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Proficiency with computers, including accurate keyboarding and experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet browsers.
Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
Level II:
- 2 years animal care or related experience.
- Experience with a research administration system.
- AALAS ALAT and/or Veterinary Technician License.
Level III:
- 3 years animal care or related experience.
- Experience with NuRamp or similar research administration system.
- AALAS ALAT and/or Veterinary Technician License.

They will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and develop effective working relationships both with internal team members, faculty, staff, and students and external stakeholders. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills are essential for success in this role.
